The assignment was to take a photograph of yourself, alter it in 3 different styles on the computer, and then reproduce each of those results by using a different style by hand. The computer versions included a BW posterization effect, a "pointalize" filter, and a wave filter mixed with some color adjustments. The physical versions included pen/ink tracings, painted pointalism, and a watercolor of another tracing of my wave design.
My commercial art teacher had a very love/hate relationship with technology. I think the idea here was "anything you can do on a computer, you can do by hand. This is nothing new". Kind of a funny assignment, by today's standards!
