Project Description
CastBack.com is an online marketplace dedicated to connecting fly fishermen to sellers of used fly fishing gear and equipment. After developing a thriving community, they hired me to rebuild their website on Wordpress, built them a new theme, and recreate the existing functionality they were replacing - as well as some missing features they wanted, to take them to the next level. The goal was to create a simple system where users could easily shop for gear, and anyone could quickly sell products - and have them be found by real humans. We built a plugin that allows users to make offers/counter-offers towards eachother, until eventually a deal is struck by both sides. Messaging allows users to discuss their listings, and a secured, third-party payment processor (provided by Stripe) manages funds until the buyer/seller are both satisfied. We even built a "Dispute" system, to allow either the buyer/seller to flag the order for a CastBack employee to step in and resolve the situation. Finally, a major focus on this website was to remove extra labor on the part of the owners - by tweaking areas that had common customer service needs, they were able to reduce their overall labor cost on the project, while delivering a better experience to both the buyer/seller - a win for everyone!

Development of this project began after working on David's Comic Creator. Here, I was creating a super-simplified way to add content, without needing any obvious Wordpress knowledge. Plugin development also leveraged several existing plugins, including WooCommerce, ACF, Dokan, and others - but most of the work involved was in learning which parts of the site needed to be built with code vs leveraging existing features. Once some of the features were completed, the rest of the project was quickly locked into place, and took shape quickly.
